IPSWICH Building Society has announced the appointment of two new non-executive directors.

Michelle Tennens is a chartered marketer who, after a number of years working in commerce in the area of marketing, set up her own business in 2001, redPepper Marketing Ltd.

Derek Bowden held senior posts within Saatchi & Saatchi between 1982 and 2001 before taking up the role of Chief Executive of Ipswich Town Football Club.

The society's board is now chaired by Mark Sargeantson, a chartered surveyor and a partner at Fenn Wright specialising in commercial property, who, having been a director of the society since 1998, took over the chairmanship in December from John Edwards, who served as chairman of 13 years.

Mr Sargeantson said: “I am delighted to be taking over as chairman at such an exciting time for the society. We aim to continue to thrive and grow as an independent mutual building society. Michelle and Derek will add strength to the board in the important areas of marketing and development.”

Paul Winter was appointed chief executive designate and Hugh May was appointed deputy chief executive last October, ahead of the planned retirement of current chief executive John Whayman.
