Barnes Construction is continuing to expand its leisure and retail portfolio, which includes current projects around the eastern region and beyond worth nearly £33million.

The Ipswich-based company, a member of the EADT/EDP Top100 listing of the 100 largest companies in Suffolk and Norfolk, is working on five new hotels for Premier Inn, at Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Clacton, Kettering and Kingston-on-Thames, and a new Travelodge hotel at Richmond-on-Thames.

It is also constructing two new public houses for Marston’s, at Great Yarmouth and Chesham, a new Chiquitos restaurant in Colchester and a new Homebargains store at Parkeston, near Harwich.

Nick Fayers, managing director at Barnes, said: “Over the last 15 years we have completed in excess of 3,500 rooms for Travelodge Hotels alone, on both a local and national basis. In addition, we have built over 20 new pubs over the last four years under our Framework relationship with Marston’s Inns and Taverns.”

However, Barnes had also worked locally on a number of projects for independent hotel operators such as Ufford Park near Woodbridge, the Brudenell Hotel in Aldeburgh, Claydon Country House in Claydon and Bedford Lodge Hotel, Newmarket, he added.
