A social enterprise has built a school bench a 115ft bench from 120,000 used plastic bottles.

Eco Furniture, which makes 100% recycled plastic outdoor furniture and play equipment from its factory at The Drift, Ipswich, is part of Realise Futures, one of the biggest social enterprises in the East of England.

Manor Green special needs school in Maidenhead, Berkshire, requested the bench, which can seat scores of schoolchildren, to run alongside its building in order to give pupils a place to sit while they wait to be collected at the end of the school day.

Eco Furniture director Jenny Brick said: “We are wondering if this could be some sort of record for the longest seat for a school. It is certainly the longest seat we have ever been asked to make.”

Profits from Realise Futures’ six enterprises, based in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Woodbridge and Felixstowe, get ploughed back into creating more jobs and learning.
