A new Subway store – the tenth in Ipswich – is set to open at the Sailmakers shopping centre.
Work to build the fast food restaurant, which will create up to 20 jobs, will start “soon” on the ground floor, officials have confirmed.
The sandwich chain will be the latest shop to open in the shopping centre over the last eight months, joining bb’s coffee and muffins, Pandora, River Island, Poundland and Iceland.
Sailmakers centre manager Mike Sorhaindo said: “This is a real boost for the centre and for the local economy with more new jobs created here at Sailmakers. Subway is a hugely successful brand and they will bring a new dynamic to the centre and to our food offer which is very important as part of a new shopping experience for our customers.”
“It is a testimony to the £4 million investment made in the shopping centre that Subway should choose to come here. This is in addition to the 60 plus jobs created in the past 12 months through the openings of prestige stores.”
It means there are now four Subway stores in the town centre area, and 10 in total in Ipswich.
Mr Sorhaindo said: “It all adds up to a major investment in the town’s economy which has been warmly welcomed by the businesses and the public. This means we are adding to an impressive retail mix of major high street names and local independents which last year had a turnover of more than a quarter of a billion pounds at the tills.”
