LAW students from Anglia Ruskin University will be heading to the USA in April after winning a place in the finals of a national competition.

Students from top law schools throughout the UK went head to head in the national finals of the Law Society's Client Interviewing Competition, which focuses on interviewing and client counselling.

The event took place at the Rivermead campus at Anglia Ruskin University on February 28 and it was second time that the home team hosted the competition after winning for three years in a row and for the sixth time overall, a national record.

They will be travelling to the University of Nevada, USA to compete in the finals in April.

Anglia Ruskin's Anglia Law School fielded two students from its Legal Practice Course in the competition which is held annually.

Lindsey Crockett, 23, and Kim Corby, 22, from Maldon, Essex, were clear winners over the other eight teams from around the country. They walked away with the winner's prize having competed against top law students from the City University, Staffordshire University, Liverpool, John Moores University, Oxford Brooks University, Sheffield Hallam University, University of Northampton, Kingston University and the University of Westminster.

The two students' coach, Lindsey Squire, said: “Anglia Ruskin University has developed a national reputation for teaching client interviewing techniques, and as a result we have many top level candidates in terms of interviewing and counselling who are currently on our Legal Practice Course. We focus heavily on these skills as they are an essential requirement for any aspiring solicitor.'

Sponsors for the competition this year included Leonard Gray Solicitors, Chelmsford, Gepp & Sons Solicitors, Chelmsford, and M&G Investments of London.
