Mildenhall: Young handler Becky wins championship at Royal Norfolk Show
Junior young handler Becky Towler won her first championship yesterday at the Royal Norfolk Show with a young heifer.
After finishing second in the beef handlers’ championship last year, Becky, eight, went one better with her yearling Dexter.
Her father, Andy, who is a builder in Mildenhall, started his Dexter herd when he was given a heifer as a Christmas present about five years ago by his partner Christine.
“When we realised how good she was, we decided to keep her.
“Instead of putting her in the deep freeze, we decided to breed from her,” she said.
Mr Towler, who now has half a dozen Dexters, said his daughter and sons, Callum, six, and Owen, 10, have also taken up showing.
His niece, Chloe, 14, and stepson, Bradley, 17, were also at ringside to watch the progress of the family’s herd.
