Movers & Shakers: Rachael Corser appointed director of nursing and clinical services at Care UK

Essex-based independent health and social care provider Care UK has appointed Rachael Corser as its new director of nursing and clinical services.
Rachael will be the professional lead for nurses and allied health professionals (AHP) working in Care UK’s 21 offender health services and 11 treatment centres as well as its range of urgent and primary care services. These include GP out-of-hours services and the 111 service for people requiring urgent help for non-life-threatening conditions.
As well as leading on infection prevention and control and ensuring the safeguarding of all patients, Rachael will work alongside Care UK’s clinicians to further embed their quality improvement framework.
Rachael said: “I am delighted to be joining Care UK at such an exciting time in healthcare development.”
Rachael is convinced that nurses and allied health professionals will have a key role to play in developing Care UK’s services and part of her remit is to design and implement a career framework aimed at making Care UK the employer of choice for the best nurses and AHPs across the country. Within this framework there will be a career structure that encourages nurses and AHPs to study, train and progress within the company.
“I am very keen that we become visible at universities and recruitment fairs. We want the brightest to come and work for us and I think we can attract the very best because no other service can offer the accessibility to so many pathways – from urgent care to acute secondary care through to offender healthcare and everything in between,” she said.
“Nurses can have an exceptional career within Care UK and I hope to be able to show those at the start of their careers, as well as those who want to push their specialisms to new levels, that there is a challenging and rewarding home for them in our nationwide services.”

Rachael holds an MSc in Nursing Research and Practice Innovation and another in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair. She joins Care UK from Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust where she was an associate chief nurse with professional responsibility for 1,500 nurses working in community healthcare, acute and emergency medicine, medicine for older people, cardiovascular services and specialist medicine.

Keith Harrison will be responsible for ensuring that the head office and all depots across the group are compliant with relevant laws and regulations.
As the principal contact for all external bodies, he will also ensure that all external accreditations and processes are up to date.
Following 22 years at a multinational sales distribution company, during which he progressed through a number of sales and SHEQ (safety, health, environment and quality) roles, Keith became a quality engineer at National Grid.
He said: “I am enjoying the diversity of my new role at BTS and it’s proving a welcomed challenge. I am looking forward to working with the company, contributing to its outstanding safety record and continuing to raise standards.”
Mr Harrison lives with his wife in Nottingham and will relocate to Suffolk in the near future.
: : Peter Osborne, who was managing the White Lion in Aldeburgh, has now taken on a new role as general manager of both the White Lion and Brudenell hotels in the seaside town.
“I am extremely lucky to be managing two hotels in one of the most beautiful parts of Suffolk,” he said. “Managing two, but very different, hotels in the same town has many great advantages as we can now cater for a wider variety of guests.”
The White Lion offers brasserie-style dining and has a strong local following, while the Brudenell has a more serious food and wine offer.
Peter’s appointment coincides with the opening of the Brudenell’s new AA two rosette Seafood & Grill restaurant and sea-facing terrace.
Both hotels will also continue their involvement with the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival in the autumn with chef demonstrations and workshops as well as their support for the town’s many community events, schools, colleges and local charities, which Peter has plans to develop further.
TA Hotel Collection owns the White Lion and Brudenell in Aldeburgh, the Crown in Woodbridge, Thorpeness Hotel and Golf Club, Thorpeness Country Club, the Swan at Lavenham, Aldeburgh Bay Holiday Lettings and Bespoke, an outside events company.

Steve, who has more than 18 years’ experience, heads the 11-strong team and also takes responsibility for a busy client portfolio. He qualified as a Certified Accountant in 1996 at Ballams in Ipswich and progressed his career with Knights Lowe in Bury St Edmunds.

: : A Suffolk-based clinical director has been appointed chairman of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Occupational Health and Ergonomics (ACPOHE).
Mark Armour, who has been a committee member since 2012, is a senior manager at Bury St Edmunds-based business-to-business occupational health and rehabilitation provider, RehabWorks.
Mark started his career as a physiotherapist in the NHS in 1993, and quickly became interested in occupational health. He left the NHS to join Scottish Power as an occupational health physiotherapist in 1997.
Mark has gone on to work in various roles associated with work and health, including a secondment to the DWP’s Scottish incapacity benefit innovations unit. He joined RehabWorks in 2006.
In recent years, he has helped ACPOHE introduce a competency framework for health professionals working in occupational health, as well as piloting a new standards accreditation for occupational physiotherapy.
“I am proud to be taking up the post of chair of the association after a number of years as a member,” said Mark.
“The organisation is at an interesting stage in its growth and profile, with a number of things in the industry affecting our membership.
“I’m looking forward to representing ACPOHE at the council for work and help and engaging with both the Faculty and Society of Occupational Medicine as they progress a move to amalgamate and incorporate other professions including physiotherapy,” he added.
This year’s ACPOHE conference, at which Mark chaired a session around assessment and treatment of work-related tendinopathy, was staged at Austin Court in Birmingham.
Mark’s colleague, Tom Bivins, led a workshop at the prestigious industry event. Tom is a specialist in preventative services and discussed issues around safe digging with the attending delegates.
He said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to lead a workshop at the event. It was a great opportunity for me to speak to members of the industry on an area in which I have considerable experience.”
: : Woodbridge-based East Green Energy has appointed two new members of staff in recent weeks, boosting its commercial offering and service delivery.
Danny Milne joins the business as a service engineer, while Stephen Knott BEng (hons) becomes head of commercial sector.
Danny is an apprenticeship-trained plumbing and heating engineer, learning his trade with a well-respected Suffolk heating, plumbing and engineering company.
He has worked as a service engineer with British Gas prior to joining the East Green Energy team and has gained expertise in biomass boiler servicing through additional training.
Stephen is a multi-skilled engineer with first-class analytical, design and problem solving skills. He previously worked at Schueco UK Ltd in Milton Keynes where he was solar engineer and trainer.
Technical director Robbie Gawthrop said the compoany was “delighted” to be able to welcome two very strong team members to the firm.
