Ipswich-based Mediterranean Shipping Company UK has presented a cheque for more than £26,600 to the Fresh Start – new beginnings, charity which supports children in Suffolk and Norfolk who have reported being sexually abused.

MSC adopted Fresh Start as its annual charity for 2014-15, with staff having raised money through a variety of activities during the year including dress down days, bake sales, sporting activities, a raffle and an annual quiz.

Anne Gordon, finance director at MSC UK, said: “This charity really touched the hearts of our staff who are honoured to have been able to help such a dedicated team deliver this crucial service.”

Fresh Start – new beginnings provides a therapeutic service for children and young adults who have been sexually abused and offer support for their families.

Its vision is to ensure that all children and young people who are victims of sexual abuse/exploitation have the opportunity to access help, advice, guidance and therapeutic intervention to aid their recovery.

Diana Porter, founder and chief Executive at Fresh Start – new beginnings, said “My staff and I are overwhelmed at the generosity of the staff at MSC not only for the amazing amount of money they raised but the time and effort that must have gone into raising it.

“On behalf of the children and young people who will benefit from it I would like to say an enormous thank you to each and every one of them.”

MSC UK is based at Ransomes Euro Park in Ipswich and employs more than 600 team members as four offices around the UK.

Each September, employees vote to select an annual charity for which they will raise funds throughout the following year. This year’s total is the highest yet achieved.
