National Farmers’ Union (NFU) East regional director Robert Sheasby has been appointed chief executive of agri-supply trade association the Agricultural Industries Confederation (AIC).

Robert, who takes on the role later in the year, engages with a wide range of stakeholders from UK and European politicians to various agencies and research organisations involved in the countryside in his current role. He is also a governor of Easton and Otley College.

“AIC is delighted to have secured Robert – with his wealth of experience in the industry – to take on the role of chief executive,” said AIC Chairman Nick Major. Robert succeeds David Caffall, who was the confederation’s first CEO and who has developed AIC to its current position within the agricultural industry. He will remain at the organisation in the newly-created part-time post of policy director. The AIC has more than 260 members representing £8bn farm gate turnover.
