Clacton farmer and vice president of the National Farmers’ Union Guy Smith, will be among the speakers at a Nuffield Triennial ‘Farming Fit for Food’ conference day on June 8.

With a growing food culture sweeping Britain, and consumers choosing foods to fit into a healthy lifestyle, the country is still seeing increasing health problems, with high levels of obesity, diabetes and heart disease, said conference day chairman Stephen Fell. Freelance broadcaster and journalist Tom Heap will chair the conference, which kicks off with Professor Michael Winter of University of Exeter exploring ways in which agriculture can play a part in improving public health, as well as some of the challenges facing the sector.

Other speakers at the event, which takes place at the East Midlands Conference Centre, include Caroline Drummond chief executive of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF), as well as Guy, a past Nuffield scholar.
