An ‘inspirational’ land college head has picked up an award for his contribution to education.

Easton and Otley College principal David Lawrence, who last year picked up an OBE, has now been awarded the 2013 Company of Educators Masters Award.

Mr Lawrence, who has just begun his second year in post at the newly-merged institution, picked up the prestigious award at a ceremony in London.

He was presented with the accolade by Master of the Company of Educators Martin Cross.

David Lawrence became Principal of Easton and Otley in August 2012, having been in charge of Easton College since 1993.

Every year since becoming a guild in May 2001, the Master of the Company of Educators has handed out an award to an inspirational figure in education.

Freeman Vic Croxson from the Company of Educators, said they were struck by his commitment and enthusiasm for education and for farming.

“What makes David Lawrence an inspirational educator is his commitment to high quality teaching, an infectious enthusiasm for ensuring the best possible opportunities for learning, and his passion for both education and the agricultural industry he unstintingly serves,” he said.

During a citation that was read out in front of a group of around 100 guests, Martin Cross paid tribute to Mr Lawrence’s achievements.

“David has done a magnificent job leading the development of Easton College for 20 years making it one of the top agricultural colleges in the UK,” he said.

“In 2012, David successfully concluded a merger with Otley College thus providing a service for 5,000 students across two counties.

“In addition to this, David is chairman of the Food, Farming and Rural Enterprise Board in Norfolk and Suffolk and has been the President of the Royal Norfolk Agricultural Association (in 2012).

“He is – without question – an inspirational educator and fully deserves this acknowledgement.”

Mr Lawrence thanked the organisation for bestowing the award on him.

“To gain recognition of this magnitude is a tremendous honour. It is humbling. I would like to thanks the Company of Educators for this award,” he said.
