Standing still is not an option in business – this will be one of the key messages at a Ready for Growth seminar being staged in Suffolk later this month to help inspire businesses to move forward.

The event, taking place at The Apex in Bury St Edmunds on Friday, May 20, is being staged by business support agency Menta in partnership with Atkins Thomson Solicitors.

Keynote speaker at the seminar will be Robert Hughes, of East Anglia-based retailer Hughes Electrical, which employs more than 900 people at round 50 locations, mainly in East Anglia, and has an annual turnover of more than £110million.

He will talk about the history of the company, the many challenges it has faced and how it has emerged as not just a survivor but a winner.

Other speakers will include Chris Barrett of Ensors Chartered Accountants who will explain how to build a strong financial framework that sets a course for growth, and Robert Dellow of Atkins Thomson Solicitors who will share his thoughts on structures to put in place to ensure a business will cope with growth.

Alongside Menta, the seminar will bring together business support organisations including Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, the New Anglia Growth Hub, Suffolk Institute of Directors, WS Training, Clarity4D and Greater Cambridge Enterprise Partnership LEP, with opportunities for networking included.

Alex Till, chief executive of Menta, said: “Our aim is to provide Suffolk’s business community with the opportunity to hear an inspiring speaker and gain information and knowledge to achieve growth for their businesses and that of our region.”
