ARCHITECT Richard Tavener has recently been elected chairman of RIBA East, the Royal Institute of British Architects region covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

ARCHITECT Richard Tavener has recently been elected chairman of RIBA East, the Royal Institute of British Architects region covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex.

Following his architectural education at Oxford Brookes University, Mr Tavener spent more than a decade working for a variety of practices. .

He established RDT Design, his own architectural Hertfordshire-based practice with his co-directors in 2003, offering a full design service including architectural, engineering and interior design.

He is passionate about design, architecture, business and education and keen to promote the construction industry. He is a past chairman and co-founder of the Herts & Beds Constructing Excellence Club and chairman of CIC East's Education Sub Group.

In his term ahead, he is keen to continue with the education focus with collaboration from professionals across the region. He would also like to increase the awareness of the work of RIBA East and encourage a wider membership across the region to join in!

He takes up post on September 1, when current chairman Steven Kearney steps down.
