A company based in Lowestoft has played a key role in constructing infrastructure for one of the largest gas fields in the North Sea.
Two barges left Lowestoft quayside over the weekend containing a power generation module and two bridges, built by the town’s Sembmarine SLP Ltd. The barges were headed for the Culzean Gas Field, 145 miles east of Aberdeen in the UK sector of the Central North Sea.
The Culzean development comprises of a well head platform, a utilities and living quarters and a central processing facility.
The weight of the integrated topsides is approximately 30,000-tonnes, and is built to handle up to 500 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 25,000 barrels per day (bpd) of condensate.
Operated by Total E&P UK, the field is the largest gas field sanctioned by the UK since East Brae in 1990 and has the potential to meet around 5% of UK gas demand by 2020/21.
The power generation module will be located on top of the central processing facility once it has been installed, and the and two interconnecting bridges will link it to the well head platform and living quarters.

We now look to future projects in which SLP can draw on experience of over 40 years supporting the offshore energy industry.”
The Lowestoft based engineering specialists were awarded the construction only contract from their Parent Company, Singapore based Sembmarine Offshore Platforms (SMOP), in September 2015 with work commencing in May 2016.
This is the latest of over 30 successfully delivered oil and gas projects and over 90 “made in Lowestoft” projects completed by Sembmarine SLP.
