St Peter’s Brewery has made a successful start to its 20th anniversary year by making India its 50th export market.
The business, based at St Peter South Elmham, near Bungay, was established by branding specialist John Murphy who, based on two decades of business travel overseas, decided there was scope to establish an English beer brand internationally.
The brewery was launched in buildings behind the historic St Peter’s Hall, taking advantage of a supply of good quality water from a deep bore-hole, and, from an initial brewing capacity of 10 barrels, it has expanded steadly to a capacity today of 80 barrels a day.
“Our aim remains to brew high quality, traditional beers as well as differentiated and interesting premium ale and beers,” said managing director Colin Cordy.
“Around the world, different countries particularly enjoy different tastes. In Scandinavia, for example, consumers enjoy our dark beers including our famous Honey Porter; in the USA and Canada, organic beers and our multiple award-winning gluten free beer are very popular; in Mexico St Peter’s Cream Stout sells by the container load and we are hoping that our latest market, India, will see our Saints Whisky Beer becoming a big seller in the country which is the largest market in the world for whisky.”
