The number of passengers flying with low-fare airlines Ryanair and easyJet increased last month despite the disruptive French air traffic control strike.

Ryanair, the largest operator at Stansted Airport, carried 8.3million passengers across its network in June 2014, a 5.0% rise on the June 2013 total, while easyJet passenger levels reached nearly 6.1m last month, an increase of 10.1%.

Both carriers had to axe a number of flights due to the French strike towards the end of last month.

A total of 82.7m people have flown with Ryanair in the 12 months ending June 2014, its highest 12-month figure ever and a 3% rise on the figure for the year ending June 2013.

And easyJet has carried 63.37m passengers in the 12 months since the end of June 2014, a 5.4% increase on the total for the 12 months ending June 2013.
