Fenn Wright started out in the late 1700s. After the First World War, fifth generation owner John Fenn invited George T Wright to join him in partnership.

The firm, which has had a presence at 1 Buttermarket, Ipswich, since the late 1700s and on Colchester’s High Street since 1874, continued to expand and today has eight residential branches across the region and a much bigger commercial arm through recent acquisitions of Taylor & Co and Newman Commercial.

The firm has a rich history, including the participation of its employees in defence efforts during World War II. Staff would man anti-aircraft guns then return to the office to continue their day jobs.

“Not many businesses have such an extraordinary and interesting history,” said managing partner Alan Williams. But they were keen to ensure the business remained relevant and up-to-date, he added.
