Rural skills will be on display this weekend at an annual Suffolk festival.
The Alde Valley Spring Festival, hosted by Jason Gathorne-Hardy at White House Farm, Great Glemham, near Saxmundham, from Saturday, May 5 to Monday, May 7, from 10am to 6pm, and on the two following weekends.
The artisans’ open studios include a woodland residency, tile making, letter carving, chairmaking, leather bag making, Mendlesham Chair Residency, wood turning, Celtic jewellery, knife making, basketry and drawing.
“The Alde Valley Spring Festival operates as a limited company, based at White House Farm for 4 weeks each Spring. It works within a set of Sustainability Criteria that I have developed at the farm,” said Jason. “Skills generation, job creation and distributed income are three targets - intended to deliver benefits wherever the model is used - but especially in rural areas.”
