Suffolk’s business community was today urged to get behind energy group EDF’s plans for the Sizewell C nuclear power station.
Tom McGarry, senior communications manager at EDF, said the proposed development represented a huge opportunity for the county and welcomed the support of Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.
However, he warned that approval for Sizewell C was “not a done deal”, and he encouraged individual businesses to signal their support.
Mr McGarry was speaking at a breakfast event for business and education leaders staged jointly by EDF and media company Archant, which publishes the EADT.
The event was held on the day EDF announced details of preferred sites for workers’ accommodation and a park-and ride-scheme to help reduce road traffic during construction of Sizewell C.
Other speakers included Terry Hunt, editor of the EADT, and Stephen Walls, head of the Sizewell C project at EDF.
