Suffolk/Essex: Shoe chain Priceless in administration

NEARLY 4,000 jobs, including dozens in the East of England, are under threat following the collapse into administration today of the owner of the Barratts and Priceless shoe shop chains.

Barratts Priceless has 191 stores in the UK, including branches of Priceless in Bury St Edmunds and Colchester, and 371 concessions with other retailers, with a total workforce of around 3,840.

The administrators, from accountancy firm Deloitte, said they would continue to trade the stores while seeking a buyer for all or parts of the business.

Deloitte restructuring partner Daniel Butters said the tough economic climate had been exacerbated for the business by the unseasonably mild recent weather which had hit sales of new winter lines.
