A family-run Suffolk pub operator is toasting the reopening of a village pub in neighbouring Cambridgeshire following a six-figure investment.

Stuart Inns had a busy 2017, with revamps at two of its three established properties, the Long Melford Swan and Lavenham Ram, and the addition of a fourth, the Old Crown at Girton in Cambridgeshire, towards the end of the year.

The firm, which also owns the Hadleigh Ram, is run by siblings Oliver Macmillan, Lorna Pissarro and Iain Macmillan, with their father Andrew Macmillan also a director.

The Girton pub is set to reopen following a joint investment from Greene King Pub Partners and Stuart Inns with a new look and a new menu.

The refurbishment work included a completely refitted kitchen, a new bar area and an extended dining space.

Pub manager Paul Richardson said he could not wait to open the doors at 12pm on Saturday (February 10).

“It’s been so exciting, from having the pub at the end of November and December to now seeing the changes we have made,” he said.

“We’ve had such strong support from the community. Lots of people are very excited about what we’re doing and we’ve had a lot of reaction to the photos we’ve been putting out on Facebook and Instagram as the work has been going on.

“We’ve been getting really good feedback and can’t wait for people to see what we’ve done with the place when we open the doors.”

While Greene King owns pub, the business is run completely independently by Paul and his team, which includes head chef Ahmet Ozalp.

The menu is based on high quality, local produce, with meat sourced from nearby Longhorn Farm.

It will be the fourth Greene King pub opened by Stuart Inns.

John Forrest, managing director of Greene King Pub Partners, said: “We’re proud to have an excellent working relationship with Stuart Inns and are delighted this continues to grow and flourish.”

“The Old Crown has done really well for a number of years, which is testament to its previous operators who built up its excellent reputation and now we’re looking forward to seeing the pub continue leaping from strength to strength under the leadership of the Macmillan family and everyone at the pub.”
