Its celebrated Flower and Garden Show, which draws inspiration from RHS Chelsea, is set to include “incredible” plant displays and floral arrangements as well as shopping opportunities from the region’s top nurseries.

For the third year in a row, the entrance to the area, which is sponsored by furniture retailer Glasswells, will be dominated by an impressive installation organised by Roger Gladwell of RG Landscapes and David Johnson of Barcham Trees.

The installation will showcase a selection of shrubs, plants and mature trees interspersed with sculptures by local artist Paul Richardson, pots and planters by Harrod Horticulture, and fire bowls by The Fire Pit Company.

The International Boatbuilding Training College in Lowestoft will also be exhibiting its rustic Norfolk Broads boat garden scene, which scooped Gold at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2017.

The Show Gardens, sponsored by Woodbridge-based Notcutts Garden Centres Ltd, bring a taste of RHS Chelsea to Suffolk with inspiring mini-garden designs and opportunities for visitors to discuss ideas with local experts.

Primary schools from across the county will be demonstrating their gardening skills with the Schools Model Garden Competition. Now in its fourth year, the competition will focus on the theme of Remembrance in recognition of the end of World War One, a theme taken up throughout the showground.

There will be a festival atmosphere with the return of the Calvors Beer Garden, featuring live music on stage from The Broadside Boys, the St Edmundsbury Male Voice Choir and Suffolk’s own Pop Chorus among others. The Calvors stage will also host family entertainment from TV’s Skinny Jean Gardeners and a live action demonstration.

“There is no other area in the Suffolk Showground with the same atmosphere and sensory delight found in the Flower and Garden Show,” said senior steward Ed Hopkins. “There are some extraordinary plant displays and fascinating garden ideas for both horticulturalists or garden novices to enjoy.”
