A tourism group set up to promote the Suffolk coast has been invited to take part in a VisitEngland promotion targeting more than 10million potential visitors.

The Suffolk Coast Destination Management Organisation (DMO), which was formed in 2012 and now has more than 70 members, is working in partnership with the national tourism organisation on a “Coastal Escapes” campaign which is being launched this weekend.

Tim Rowan-Robinson, chairman of the Suffolk Coast DMO, said: “Having a dedicated body to promote the Suffolk coast is clearly working well for tourism businesses operating in the area. Not only are we expanding, but having been asked to partner with VisitEngland on its coastal marketing campaign demonstrates that we’re a growing force in tourism marketing in Suffolk.”

Fiona Johnson, who is responsible for the DMO’s marketing, added: “We’re very excited about working in partnership with VisitEngland and national media to give exposure to our local tourism businesses.

“Suffolk has a unique allure and our coastal credentials are unrivalled, including heritage, culture, music, walking, breathtaking natural scenery and food and drink. We’re confident that this campaign will enable us to highlight what we have to offer to entice new customers and keep tourism buoyant throughout 2014.”

Coastal Escapes forms part of a wider “Growing Tourism Locally” campaign by VisitEngland.

James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland, said: “The Coastal Escapes thematic campaign forms part of some really exciting activity planned this spring to inspire people to make the most of the wonderful destinations in this country.

“Previous campaigns have delivered fantastic results, providing a welcome boost to the domestic tourism economy and creating jobs for the sector, and this next raft of themed campaigns will continue to generate growth by promoting the fantastic holiday experiences on offer in England, including the wonders of the Suffolk coast.”
