A NEW batch of lecturers is set to spark life into an expanding department at Otley College.

The team of five, including published science fiction author Terry Gates-Grimwood, is currently running electrical training at the college and is offering a new selection of courses for 2007/08.

Courses are aimed at all comers, including experienced electricians, tradesmen who need to improve basic knowledge and those seeking new careers.

Head of department Stuart Hart said: “Although the college already runs a number of highly successful full and part-time vocational courses aimed at the school leaver and the working apprentice, we have now added a set of commercial courses to our portfolio.

“These courses meet the needs of an electrical industry facing widespread changes to working practices and qualification levels. Therefore, we are expanding to meet these demands.”
