The Diocese of Chelmsford has invited the farming community to its Plough Sunday event at Thaxted Parish Church on Sunday, January 13.

The service, which starts at 11am and is followed by a ploughman’s lunch, will be led by Dean of Chelmsford, the Very Rev Nicholas Henshall, who will be preaching and blessing the plough.

The tradition, which dates back to medieval times, continues to provide a “valuable opportunity” for the church to support farmers, said Essex agricultural chaplain Rev Janet Nicholls.
