Hullo Allo? What is coming next in the smart Google world of technology?

What is coming next in the world of software and technology development?

There was a chance to find out some clues at Adastral Park, Suffolk.

On Wednesday May 18, Coderus Limited and Innovation Martlesham co-hosted a successful Google I/O event at Adastral Park, which was also sponsored by BT and the IP Network.

This is the second in a series of three global technology events planned for 2016.

The Microsoft Build event, which attracted interest from television, was the first to be held at Adastral Park and one of only two events taking place in the UK.

The Google I/O event held this month was only one of ten events hosted throughout the UK.

Coderus, a software development and embedded solutions provider, and hi-tech cluster, Innovation Martlesham, welcomed a record number of delegates from major ICT and digital companies across the East of England, along with independent software developers and representatives from educational institutions.

Guests enjoyed networking sessions and the Coderus team performed live demos of Google technology, including Cardboard, Nexus Player, Motorola 360 V2 and cross-platform app development using Xamarin.

Guests were then invited to watch a live stream broadcast of the Google I/O keynote speeches, direct from San Francisco, California to BT’s John Bray Lecture Theatre at Adastral Park, home of BT’s global and development headquarters and Innovation Martlesham

Google I/O is an annual developer conference – a platform for Google to showcase their latest product innovations to the world. Key technology announcements made at the 2016 event included innovative apps such as the Allo app (a smart messaging app) and Duo, Google’s video calling app, and Google’s latest products intended to make our lives with technology as synergetic as possible. These products included the Google Home device that links to all the speakers at home and is voice activated, allowing users to turn speakers in multiple rooms on and off with just their voice and the Android Wear, a smart watch that will allow users to make data from any app show up on any watch face.

Virtual reality (VR) was also high on Google’s agenda for the keynote with the technology giant announcing their first virtual reality platform called Daydream. There are high hopes for this technology with Google announcing that they have already created special VR versions of its own apps such as YouTube, Street View, Google Play Store, Play Movies, and Google Photos.

Further to that it has been rumoured that companies, like The New York Times, HBO and Netflix are too, developing for Daydream.

Following the live stream of the keynote speeches, Jim Milne, Business Development for Innovation Martlesham, hosted a lively panel discussion with the audience that discussed implications and opportunities of what Google had just announced. The specially selected group of experts consisted of Mark Thomas (CEO of Coderus Limited), Alan Jones Nerostorm (Founder and Tech Mentor at Innovation Martlesham), Jonathan Mitchener (Lead Technologist at Innovate UK) and Chris Janes (UCS Lecturer Gamification and AI).

Audience members posed questions about a wide range of topics likely to affect the developer community, including security, integration and cross-platform compatibility.

Mark Thomas, CEO of Coderus Limited said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended the Google I/O event, as well as our co-host and sponsors. Theses events are getting bigger and better as the years go and it is wonderful to see the enthusiasm in the East of England to stay connected and up to date with the latest innovations in software development and technology.”

The success of the Coderus and Innovation Martlesham Google I/O Extended event is testament to the tech enthusiasm in the East of England, he added.

This successful Google I/O event will be followed by Apple’s WWDC technology event in June 2016. Coderus and Innovation Martlesham will be co-hosting the WWDC event, which comes to Adastral Park for the first time on the June 13, 2016.
