A TOP US landscape designer is headlining a horticulture lecture series at Writtle College.
Steve Martino is among the internationally-renowned horticulturists and designers taking part in the James Hearsum Lecture Series starting on October 16 at the Chelmsford-based college.
The series, the brainchild of an ex-horticulture student, also includes UK garden designer Sarah Eberle, and gardening writer and owner of the Dillon Garden in Dublin, Helen Dillon. Director of Conservation at Kew Gardens, Dr Tim Entwisle will also be there.

now in its eighth year ‐ is delivered by professional horticulturists, contractors and designers.
Steve Martino heads‐up the series this year, travelling from Phoenix, Arizona, to speak to students and
visitors on 16 October.
Steve will be followed by Sarah Eberle, renowned UK garden designer, on 27 November and Helen Dillon,
gardening writer and owner of The Dillon Garden, Ranelagh, Dublin, on 4 December.
On Tuesday 15 January, Dr Tim Entwisle, Director of Conservation, Living Collections and Estates at Kew
Gardens, will deliver a lecture.
Nick Macer, founder of specialist plant nursery Pan Global Plants in Gloucestershire, will finish the series on
Tuesday 5 March.
This eighth lecture series has been organised by Greg Allen, Senior Lecturer in Landscape Studies at the
College, with a team of first, second and third year students.
Mr Allen says: “These speakers will approach aspects of horticulture and design from varying perspectives.
Their lectures will include lavish illustrations and there will be an opportunity for questions and discussions
once the lectures are complete.
