Heavy horse enthusiasts are expected to flock to a major show and working horse harness and equipment sale taking place at Rede Hall, Chedburgh, near Bury St Edmunds on Saturday, May 10.

The auction, which is being arranged by Bury-based rural auctioneer Peter Crichton, extends to more than 500 lots and includes a range of horse drawn and powered vehicles as well as a rare and extensive collection of harnesses, other equestrian equipment and bygones.

The vehicles include a wide variety of wagons, carriages and carts as well as horseboxes and collectors’ tractors.

The auction comes at a time when there has been a renewal of interest in the Suffolk Horse ? the county’s native breed of heavy horse, also known as the Suffolk Punch ? which was once at risk of extinction.

The items for auction will be on view on Friday, May 9, between noon and 6pm, and on the day of the sale, commencing at 11am. Catalogues can be downloaded from www.petercrichton.co.uk .
