Essex County Fire and Rescue Service have had a busy night after high winds from storm Eleanor brought down trees, roofs and electricity poles in the county.
According to a spokesman, the fire service attended 15 incidents related to the weather, mostly due to trees falling into the roadway.
He said the incidents happened in Chelmsford, Braintree, Brentwood, Canvey, Geat Wakering, Loughton, Rochford and Southend.
“We also attended fallen electricity poles and cables, a flat roof which had been blown into a roadway and large metal shed which collapsed onto a car (no one inside),” he said.
Just after midnight, a car crashed into a tree that had fallen into Dunmow Road near Braintree.
Fire crews were called to the scene at around 12.05am.
A spokesman added: “Firefighters were called to help at the scene of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle which had crashed into a tree which had fallen into the roadway.
“Firefighters worked with paramedics to help release one casualty from the vehicle.
“The casualty was left in the care of the Ambulance Service at 12:35am.”
