ORGANISERS of this year's Halesworth Carnival are appealing for more organisations to take part in the festivities and make the occasion the best ever.

Sponsored by the East Anglian Daily Times the carnival is organised by Halesworth Lions and as well as being a great family day out also raises money for local good causes.

"Come on everybody, it's time to take the town by storm and make this year's carnival even bigger and better than last year.

"Whether you're a sports club, drama group, business, school or someone who just wants to have fun, come and take part in our carnival procession," said John Keeble of Halesworth Lions.

This year's carnival and fete is taking place on Sunday, June 13.

The procession assembles from noon in Walpole Road with judging in the various categories by representatives of Halesworth Lions and the EADT, followed by the presentation of the David Patrick Newsagent Shield for the best overall entrant.

The carnival procession sets off at 1.15pm along London Road before going the "wrong way" through The Thoroughfare and arriving at Saxon Way car park next to the Town Park.

"No one needs to spend a fortune, a funny hat, some balloons, and a sense of humour is all you need for a great day," said Mr Keeble.

Anyone wanting more information about taking part in the procession can contact Mr Keeble on 01986 872994.

Once again the Town Park will be packed with stalls and amusements alongside a main ring with continuous entertainment from 2.15pm.

Attractions already booked include:

2.15pm _ Martin Jenner, stilt walker, clown, juggler and escapologist.

2.45pm _ Hadleigh Comets majorettes.

4.40pm _ Razz the Clown with Auntie Pearl and their crazy car.

5.20pm _ Twilight Twirlers comedy display team.

5.50pm _ Lowestoft Scout and Guide marching band.

Throughout the afternoon there will be Mr Jingle's Punch and Judy Shows, and the ever popular pet show sponsored by Nolly's Pets of Halesworth and Skinners of Stradbroke.

Classes include best puppy, best presented pet, best veteran pet, pet most like its owner, friendliest pet, best cat, best working dog and youngest handler.

The plastic ducks are having a rest this year and instead a balloon race is being held with a first prize of £75.

Tickets are on sale in The Thoroughfare on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and will also be available on the day.
