Festival Republic bosses have applied to increase capacity for Latitude by almost 4,000.

The festival began at Henham Park, near Southwold, with a comparatively modest 15,000 capacity in 2006.

Since then, it has grown in popularity, attracting 25,000 music fans in 2009.

The following year, capacity was increased to 35,000 and, two years later, it won Best Family Festival at the UK Festival Awards.

Now, organisers want to boost capacity to 39,999 – about half that of the promoter’s Reading and Leeds festivals, and still only a fraction of the 177,000 capacity of Glastonbury, in Somerset.

The premises licence variation application was published this week. Full details can be viewed at Suffolk Coastal District Council.

Representations should be made by February 1, in writing to the Licensing Team, Suffolk Coastal District Council, East Suffolk House, Riduna Park, Station Road, Melton, Woodbridge, Suffolk IP12 1RT, or by email to licensing.scdc@eastsuffolk.gov.uk.
