AN INSPIRED mum is running the London Marathon for a cancer charity in memory of her grandfather.

Kate Parry, from Capel St Mary, is raising vital funds for Prostate Cancer UK by tackling the 26.2 mile course in London on Sunday.

Her grandfather Leslie Dable passed away in 1987, aged 83, after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. Her dad, Tony Dable, was diagnosed with the disease in 2008.

But 37 sessions of radiotherapy later he was given the all-clear last year.

“I am running the marathon in honour of my grandfather,” she said.

“The charity is a great cause and hopefully I can raise a lot of money.”

London Marathon runners will wear black ribbons in support of Boston, after the bombings which killed three and injured more than 150.

“It is a fitting tribute. The marathon should go ahead,” Kate added.
