VETS were forced to amputate a cat's leg after it was found badly fractured and almost severed.

The RSPCA is appealing for information about the incident, and fear the injuries were caused deliberately.

The white cat, who has a tabby head and tail, was discovered on Chalgrove Road in Norwich on Sunday, February 1, at 7.30am.

She was taken to Companion Care veterinary surgery in Norwich where her leg had to be amputated and the RSPCA was called.

During a routine scan for a microchip, it was found that the cat's name is Malinki and she is three-and-a-half years old.

It's believed her registered owner lives in Edgehill in the Dussindale area of Norwich, but may have moved.

RSPCA inspector Ben Kirby has tried to contact her owner without success.

The examining vet concluded that the leg had been partly severed with something sharp, but it is not known if the cat's injury was caused deliberately or was the result of an accident.

But the area in which the cat was found is less than two miles from Thorpe St Andrew where a cat was found with his tail cut off in late December last year.

Inspector Kirby said: “We need to find out if anyone knows what happened to Malinki to rule out the possibility that she was deliberately hurt.

“Also, we would very much like to get in touch with her owner and reunite her with her cat.”

Anyone with information about Malinki's injury or those who think they might know her owner should contact the RSPCA in confidence on 0300 1234 999.
