FIRE crews spent nearly three hours this morning trying to bring a chimney fire under control.

Crews from Holbrook managed to tackle the fire within the lower section of the chimney, at a property in St Andrews Drive, Chelmondiston, using rods. However, they had to call on the turntable to allow them to access the upper part of the chimney and break up the remainder of the blaze.

They arrived on scene at 4.42 am and eventually had the blaze controlled by 7.30am.

Crews are now cooling the chimney and monitoring it incase any hotspots reignite.
