AN APPEAL to fund a new children’s hospice in Ipswich received a massive boost today after it was announced fundraising had hit the 1m mark.
It means work is progressing quickly on the new hospice, which is being built in woodland off Bixley Road,
The 3m treehouse appeal, backed by the EADT, was launched earlier this year by East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices to fund the six-bedroom facility which will eventually replace the hospice’s current base – a small bungalow in Walker Close.
When the hospice was set up in 1999, there were just six members of staff. Today that number stands at 34.
The facility has gone from helping 40 families to 80, with the potential that 400 families from Suffolk and Essex could use the services.
