Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in Clacton town centre.

The attack happened in the alley between High Street and Rosemary Road at 5.30pm on Wednesday, January 22 when a group of youngsters verbally abused a man before pushing him to the ground. One of the group then hit him on the head with a stick.

Investigating Officer, Pc Keith Rowland, said: “This man had to spend the night in hospital where he received stitches to a head wound. He has been left shaken and upset by this unprovoked attack. There may have been people walking home from work who would have seen the assault and they may be a key witness.”

The 57-year-old local man was taken by paramedics to Colchester General Hospital where he was treated for his head injury and later discharged.

Anyone with information in connection with this assault is urged to contact investigating officers at Clacton Police Station on 101.
