Clacton: Funeral arranged for heroic Pc Ian Dibell

A PRIVATE funeral will be held next week for a heroic off-duty police officer who died trying to intervene in a dispute.

Pc Ian Dibell’s funeral will take place on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 31, at Weeley Crematorium, near Clacton.

A spokesman for Essex police said: “Ian’s family has asked in the strongest possible terms that members of the media do not intrude upon their grief.

“The family has decided that this will be a private service with only family, close friends and close colleagues attending. There will be an Essex Police guard of honour at the crematorium. “

In addition, Essex Police is working with Ian’s family to hold a memorial service and celebration of Ian’s life in St James’ Church, Clacton, on Wednesday, August 15, 2012.

Further details of this event will be released in the next few days.

The 41-year-old was killed when he tried to prevent crazed gunman Peter Reeve – later found shot dead – chasing his neighbour Trevor Marshall down a street in Clacton on July 9.
