A woman suffered serious leg and hip injuries when the horse she was riding fell on top of her.
Paramedics were called after it was reported both the horse and the rider, believed to be in her 20s, fell into a ditch near Clacton Road, Weeley Heath, at about noon.
A rapid response car, ambulance and the hazardous area response team (HART) and the off-road Polaris vehicle were involved in helping the woman, whose injuries were made worse by the horse rolling over her.
HART Supervisor, Steve Salter, said: “The incident happened about 200yards away from the main road down a narrow dirt track.
“We administered her with pain relief and she was safely transported back to the road via our Polaris vehicle. She was then conveyed to Colchester General Hospital for further treatment.”
