COASTGUARDS carried out a search near Clacton Pier last night following reports that a person had entered the water.

At 9.34pm Thames Coastguard received a 999 call reporting that a person had entered water near to the pier and possibly not come out again.

The Clacton RNLI lifeboat and Inshore lifeboat carried out an offshore search while other crew members searched around some groynes.

Clacton Coastguard team also conducted a shore line search and the Suffolk Police helicopter made several sweeps of the area.

Despite the thorough search nobody was found.
