Police investigating a burglary at a Colchester department store would like help in tracing a man who tried to stop the break-in.

At just before 10pm on Friday, May 24, a suspect smashed a window at Debenhams in Culver Street West and stole £650 worth of perfume from a window display.

Officers believe a man may have confronted the suspect who then ran off. They would like to speak to him to assist in their investigation. It is thought he may have been a doorman working at one of the bars on Crouch Street but enquiries made so far have proved negative.

Anybody with information is asked to call the Colchester Town Patrol Team at Essex Police on 101. A 50-year-old man from Colchester has been questioned by police on suspicion of burglary and is on bail until Sunday, July 28.
