A SCHEME to ban cars and lorries from Colchester’s high street has been scrapped.

Essex County Council said it is suspending the new traffic regulation orders which were introduced just last month.

A spokesman from the local authority said it has made the decision following concerns over the impact the ban was having on the centre.

Campaigners, including traders, disabled groups and lorry drivers, have strongly opposed the trial car ban and held a second demonstration outside the town hall this morning.
