An appeal for information about the murder of James Attfield on Crimewatch has been welcomed by detectives.

The BBC 1 programme featured the case last night.

Mr Attfield was found with more than 100 stab wounds close to Lower Castle Park in Colchester in the early hours of Saturday March 29. The student, 33, died at the scene shortly afterwards.

Det Insp Anne Cameron from Essex Police appeared on the show last night asking for witnesses to come forward.

Viewers were shown CCTV images of potential witnesses and an e-fit, along with a reconstruction of Mr Attfield’s final movements the day before his body was found and how the murder might have looked.

Speaking during an update show after the main programme DI Cameron said there had been “a number of interesting calls”, while officers had been “really encouraged”.

Two men, both aged 33 and from Colchester, were arrested yesterday in connection with the murder and a separate grievious bodily harm incident close to Leisure World at 2am on Saturday May 31. They remain in police custody.
