A BOY has been rescued from a bridge in Colchester.

The fire service was alerted at 2.36pm by the police after a young boy climbed up a support on the Hythe Bridge and got stuck 15 feet up.

Firefighters arriving at the scene used lines to secure the boy - believed to be about 10 years old - and then two firefighters went up on an aerial ladder platform to reach him and bring him down to safety. He was unharmed.

The boy was playing around the underside of the bridge with friends when he became trapped.

Once rescued, he was left in the care of the Police.

The incident was dealt with by 3.10pm.
