Firefighters tackled a blaze at a flat in Colchester during the early hours of this morning.
Three fire engines were called to a ground floor flat in Granary Court in Hythe Quay at 4.09am after a neighbour saw smoke coming from the building.
Nobody was at home when the fire broke out.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel to tackle the fire. Once it was out they used a high pressure fan to ventilate the heavily smoke logged building. The incident was dealt with by 04:56 hrs.
A joint Police and Fire Service investigation will now be carried out to establish the cause of the blaze.
