Police and firefighters are investigating after a blaze broke out in a flat in Colchester.

Officers and two fire engines were called to the blaze in Avignon Close shortly after midnight today.

The first-floor flat was heavily smoke logged before the blaze was put out and brought under control by 1am. A high pressure fan was used to clear the smoke out of the property.

No injuries were reported. A fire spokesman said an investigation will be launched to establish the cause of the blaze.

An Essex Police spokesman also said enquiries are being carried out to establish the cause of the fire.
