KNITTERS from Colchester are hoping their hard work will help to keep babies in Africa warm.
More than 1,500 woollen items have been produced after a call went out to local knitters to start work on jumpers, hats and blankets.
The collection has been organised by Alex Davis and Amy Turnbull, who run a monthly ‘Stitch and Bitch’ knitting group in the town.
The items will be sent to Malawi where parents have to wrap newborn children in newspaper, earning them the nickname ‘fish ’n’ chip babies’.
