A 23-year-old man has been arrested following a string of burglaries in Essex, including two where residents were tied up and threatened with a knife.

The offences took place in Colchester between March and August this year.

The suspect was arrested today on suspicion of burglary offences including aggravated burglaries.

He remains in custody for questioning, according to a spokeswoman for Essex Police.

On July 10, police were called to reports of a aggravated burglary at a property in Avon Way.

A man, who climbed through the window around 4.15am, tied up a woman inside the home and threatened her with a knife.

A debit card was stolen and a large amount of cash was later withdrawn.

A similar incident happened on August 14 at an address in Acacia Avenue.

A man forced entry into the home around 5am and again a woman was tied up and threatened with a knife.
