A man will appear in court today after being charged with theft and three counts of grievous bodily harm.

It’s after three assaults happened at around 2am on New Year’s Day in Queen Street, Colchester, one of which left a 25-year-old man with serious head injuries.

He remains in Romford’s Queens Hospital in a critical condition.

Alexander Hunter, aged 21 and of no fixed address, was arrested shortly after this incident in a nearby fast-food outlet.

He has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent on the 25-year-old along with two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent on two other men in St Osyth in June last year and two counts of theft of these victims’ mobile telephones at the same time.

He will appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court today.

Detectives are still looking to identify the victims of the two other assaults on Queen Street in the early hours of New Year’s Day outside The Silk Road nightclub and Subway.
