A MAN from Colchester has been found dead in prison the day before he was due to be sentenced for raping a young woman in a holiday park during a music event.

An inquest was opened in Norwich today into the death of Paul Gigg, 30, who was pronounced dead at Norwich Prison on January 27. He was on remand in prison awaiting sentence at Norwich Crown Court on January 28.

A post mortem examination concluded the cause of death was hanging. The death is not being treated as suspicious, but an investigation will be carried out by the prison ombudsman. The inquest was adjourned awaiting the report.

Gigg, of Highwoods, Colchester, was charged following an attack during a Kiss Weekender event at Vauxhall Holiday Park in Acle New Road, Great Yarmouth, on October 20 last year.

He was arrested after the 20-year-old victim described told police her attacker was wearing an Incredible Hulk onesie, and he had admitted rape at court hearing in Norwich.
