Colchester Zoo has taken down a plaque unveiled by Rolf Harris after the Australian entertainer was convicted of indecently assaulting four girls.
Harris was yesterday told to expect a prison sentence after a jury found him guilty of the offences which happened in 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.
And in response to the conviction the zoo, one of Essex’s largest tourist attractions, has decided to remove a plaque in their Spirit of Africa area.
Harris visited Colchester Zoo in April 1998 to open the Spirit of Africa’s elephant enclosure.
The event was marked by a plaque unveiled on the day and retained as the area expanded to include other animals.
However a zoo spokesman confirmed today the plaque had been removed, but had no further comment to make on the matter.
